Thank You Mike from North Wales Aerial & Satellite Service

Another thank you post, this time to Mike from North Wales Aerial & Satellite Services (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100090442537112).

Mike kindly offered to be added to our SOS list last year, following an appeal for help from people with ladders. We contacted him late on Wednesday evening regarding a chick reported as being trapped under roof netting. His sibling had also been under, but had managed to get himself out a day or so earlier.

Mike attended once we had gained permission to access the roof, and ‘Mike’ gull chick was successfully rescued. Sadly, the second chick that had freed himself had got tangled by his legs, in the outside of the netting, and had succumbed to the weather … what a horrible death, and only 7–10 days old .

We do try to keep chicks with their parents, and therefore we placed Mike gull chick on a flat porch roof at the front of the property. Little Mike marched up the roof and got immediately tangled in the horrible netting and had to be rescued a second time. He is now with one of our human chick mums.

Very grateful thanks to Mike – another nice guy !!

Could you join our SOS list for help with ladders in your local area? We often get offers of ladders but have no way of transporting them from A to B, and also need someone who is used to working at heights.

Netting is so unnecessary. It doesn’t stop birds nesting – it just traps and kills many of them.

Please sign the petition if you feel Mike’s little sibling deserved better: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/752959
